Citi Wealth Pitches Crypto ETFs as Bitcoin Custody Date Stays Open
Citi Wealth introduced spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs to suitable clients in an October report, while Citi's Custody+ Bitcoin custody still has no launch date.

Citi Wealth used an October report to introduce spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs to clients it judges suitable for them. The report is titled "Expanding the Investable Universe: Introduction to Crypto ETFs". It puts one of the largest US banks' wealth arms on record as presenting the fund wrapper to its own client base.
The pitch is one of two crypto tracks running inside Citi. The other is direct Bitcoin custody for institutions, which the bank has promised for this year but has not yet dated.
Citi Custody+ Bitcoin Launch Still Dated Only as Later This Year
Citi announced its Custody+ suite on August 18, 2026. In that release, the bank said it expects to go live with digital asset custody later this year, starting with the custody of Bitcoin. Clients will access traditional and crypto custody within the same framework.
With the calendar at November 4, "later this year" leaves less than two months. Citi has not confirmed a launch date, and the timing beyond the August wording is unverified.
Two Routes Into Bitcoin for Two Kinds of Client
The two efforts serve different buyers. The ETF report is aimed at wealth clients, who would hold Bitcoin and Ether exposure through a listed fund. Custody+ is aimed at institutions that want the bank itself to safekeep the coins, alongside their traditional assets on one platform.
The report lands during a stretch of selling in US crypto funds, including an October run of Ether ETF outflows. A bank wealth desk presenting the products to clients does not reverse that by itself. It does widen the pool of advised money that can reach the funds through a mainstream channel.
What the Report Says
The full text of the Citi Wealth report was not available for review. Its specific case for crypto ETFs, the risks it lists and the client suitability limits it sets cannot be confirmed here.
The next concrete marker is the Custody+ go-live. Until Citi puts a date on it, the bank's only firm public commitment is the August release's "later this year".
