Consensus 2018: Day 1 Recap

Consensus 2018 starts with a bang as Winklevoss twins announce Zcash, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash support on Gemini and NYCEDC to make New York City a blockchain hub.

May 14th was the first day of Consensus 2018 in New York City. According to Barry Silbert, CEO and Founder of CoinDesk’s parent company Digital Currency Group, the final attendance count was about 8,500. The price of one ticket is $2,000 which mean that CoinDesk raised at least $17 million in revenue (8,500 tickets x $2,000 per ticket). Consensus is one of the largest blockchain conferences in the world and tripled their attendance from last year’s event (2,700).

This event is a huge platform to announce news and there was no shortage of that. Below is the most important news announced.

Top News:

  • Zcash, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash are coming to Gemini’s exchange starting May 19th. Besides Coinbase, Gemini is one of the other better fiat to crypto exchanges and adding more coins is important for the growth of Bitcoin and the crypto space.   • James Patchett, President and CEO of the New York Development Corporation (NYCEDC) announced plans to make New York City a blockchain hub. As part of this plan, they plan to implement two initiatives; 1) NYC Blockchain Resource Center 2) Start a public blockchain competition, overseen by NYCEDC.
