Hyperliquid Hits Record High as $1.2B Token Unlock Looms
Hyperliquid’s HYPE token has hit a record high just days before a $1.2 billion token unlock, putting its latest rally under pressure from a major increase in supply.

Hyperliquid’s HYPE token has reached a new all time high just days before one of its largest scheduled token unlocks, putting the project’s strong price momentum against a major increase in circulating supply.
HYPE climbed to a record $83.27 on Sunday before retreating toward $77.50. At that level, Hyperliquid’s market capitalization stood near $19.5 billion.

The timing is notable. On August 29, Hyperliquid is scheduled to release tokens worth roughly $1.2 billion, according to the figures provided. The event is the largest remaining monthly unlock listed for the project.
HYPE Rally Meets Major Token Unlock
Hyperliquid has followed a fixed token release schedule since its November 2024 launch. The project has a maximum supply of 1 billion HYPE, with portions released each month to different recipient groups.
The August 29 unlock will distribute tokens across three categories: community, insiders and the Hyper Foundation.
Insiders will receive the largest share at 46.6%, narrowly ahead of the community allocation at 46.3%. The Hyper Foundation accounts for the remaining 7%.
The insider allocation is particularly important for traders because these tokens are held by early investors and contributors who acquired their positions at significantly lower prices. If some recipients decide to realize profits, the additional supply could create selling pressure around the unlock.
However, a token unlock does not automatically mean that HYPE will fall. The actual market impact depends on how recipients use the newly released tokens and whether existing demand is strong enough to absorb the additional supply.

August Unlock Could Put HYPE Under Pressure
The previous three monthly unlocks show just how unpredictable the market reaction can be.
Following the July unlock, HYPE declined about 7%. The token gained roughly 1% after the June release, while the May unlock was followed by a much sharper 14.1% decline.
This mixed history suggests that traders should focus on the size and destination of the unlocked supply rather than assuming that every release will trigger a sell-off.
For August, the biggest concern is the amount going toward insiders. Based on the figures provided, the insider allocation represents approximately $560 million worth of HYPE at current valuations.
That makes the August 29 event particularly important because HYPE is approaching the unlock from record-high levels rather than after an extended decline.
Hyperliquid Gains Broader Market Attention
The HYPE rally comes as Hyperliquid continues to attract attention beyond its token price.
Coinbase recently added 50x perpetual futures to its Base app through Hyperliquid’s infrastructure, expanding the protocol’s role within mainstream crypto trading infrastructure.
Hyperliquid has also drawn attention from US policymakers. Ahead of a closed-door meeting with cryptocurrency executives, President Donald Trump referenced the protocol and said the CFTC was working to bring Hyperliquid into the United States in a “fully compliant and legal fashion.”
The decentralized perpetual futures exchange is currently unavailable to US users because of geographic restrictions.
The comments arrive as Washington takes a more favorable approach toward the broader crypto industry. Trump also called for Congress to pass a “fair version” of the CLARITY Act during a White House crypto meeting.
What to Watch for HYPE Price
The key question now is whether HYPE can maintain its record-setting momentum while the market prepares for a substantial increase in supply.
If demand remains strong, the August 29 unlock may be absorbed without creating significant downside pressure. However, if insiders begin taking profits, the additional circulating supply could make it harder for HYPE to maintain its recent highs.
The next scheduled unlock after August 29 is expected on September 29, with a release of similar size.
For now, HYPE holders face an unusual setup: record-high prices on one side and a major token unlock on the other. How the token behaves around August 29 could provide an important signal about the strength of demand behind Hyperliquid’s latest rally.
